Belgian Malinois

Nervous, sensitive and impulsive, this breed is extremely lively in his response to stimuli. Watchful, attentive, with a strong personality, he is remarkably devoted to his owner and is occasionally aggressive towards strangers. He is very energetic, active and dynamic, and needs a lot of exercise. The Malinois, which was chosen for guard dog and sporting activities at the end of the 19th century, is more assertive and has a stronger personality than the other calmer verities because of its sheepdog origin. These very sensitive dogs cannot tolerate harsh treatment. Training must be firm, but gentle, and undertaken with the greatest patience.
